Doy Kim constructs virtual realms as a means of departing from a world laid waste by human activity.
These imagined spaces serve as refuges where industrial waste, polluted remnants, and extinct beings resettle and take root once more. What humanity has discarded does not remain mere debris.
Instead, it is transformed into seeds replanted and suspended between anxiety and vitality.
Composed of multiple layers, her virtual realms generate a “place that is nowhere.” Within this world, we encounter forms of life growing in the cracks and interstices we so often overlook in reality. Yet this is not a perfect sanctuary. The traces of destruction left by humankind and wounds still unresolved continually surface, allowing escape and unease to coexist. Her work becomes a site where sensation and imagination intermingle, persistently evoking a lingering sense of fear.
