Fundraising Lab
The AZIMUTH Fundraising Lab was a two-session pilot programme combining collaborative research with peer-led learning. It examined fundraising structures, organisational sustainability, and the wider cultural economy shaping the contemporary arts sector.
Rather than functioning as a conventional funding application workshop, the programme brought together independent curators, artists, and cultural practitioners to investigate how funding systems, institutional priorities, and professional networks influence artistic production and organisational development. Through group discussions, case studies, and peer exchange, participants explored practical funding strategies, alternative support structures, and flexible models of collaboration for navigating the structural challenges faced by independent practitioners.

Programme Outcomes
Ecosystem Literacy
Participants examined public and private funding structures across the UK and international arts sectors, developing a stronger understanding of the funding landscape and the structural challenges affecting independent practice.
Peer-led Infrastructure
The programme created a space for participants to exchange practical knowledge, funding strategies, and peer feedback on organisational sustainability, while supporting the development of longer-term professional relationships and collaborative networks.
Project Development
The pilot demonstrated the potential of a flexible, peer-led collaboration model. Following discussions initiated during the programme, a group of participants formed a project team and subsequently secured an exhibition opportunity through the Copeland Gallery Open Call.
